She first appeared on the movie scene in 1991 in the film Spotswood. She made her biggest splash though in 1994 when she played Muriel Heslop in Muriel's Wedding, which she gained 42 pounds to do. In her free time she likes to go on mental and spiritual retreats in India. She also does yoga and has climbed the Tibetan Himalayas. She is also a vegetarian. She has won many awards. Most recently and most notably she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Sixth Sense.
