She began modeling when she was 12, initially as a print model in national campaigns for companies like Sears and Bradlees. She soon made the move to television ads, and started taking acting lessons when she was 14. The lessons paid off when only a few months later, she landed her first big acting gig when she was cast as Jody Travis on the ABC daytime soap, The Edge of Night. Urged by fellow The Edge of Night actor Joel Crothers, the young actress set her sights on a career beyond daytime drama. After three and a half years on the soap, Loughlin left in 1983 to pursue film work. She appeared in several features, including the horror flick Amityville 3-D (1983), the thriller The New Kids (1985), the romantic comedy Secret Admirer (1985), Rad (1986), a film about BMX racing, and the beach-movie spoof Back to the Beach (1987). In 1988, Loughlin landed the role that made her a regular guest in the homes of millions of TV viewers. As Rebecca "Becky" Donaldson Katsopolis, girlfriend and later wife of John Stamos' character on the ABC sitcom Full House, Loughlin became a weekly TV fixture over the next seven seasons.
