If ever there were a case of an actress playing against type, it's Jessica Cauffiel in Legally Blonde. Sure, she is a real blonde. But unlike her sorority sis character, Margot, a lovable ditz who's best buds with Reese Witherspoon, in person Cauffiel is articulate, funny and much more, well, legally minded. It doesn't hurt that the 25-year-old Detroit native was raised by a domestic-violence police investigator mom, while her dad is bestselling crime novelist Lowell Cauffiel. But rather than segue into sleuthing herself, Cauffiel opted to dig up an acting career, starting with theatrical roles on the New York stage, then making her way to Los Angeles for film roles in Road Trip, The Out-of Towners, Urban Legends" Final Cut and Valentine.
