Profession: Actress
In 1985, Close co-starred with Jeff Bridges in Jagged Edge and tried her hand at comedy in the title role of Maxie. She earned her fourth Oscar nomination, this time for Best Actress, for her terrifying portrayal of the now notorious bunny-boiler Alex Forrest in 1987's Fatal Attraction. Close gave birth to daughter Annie Maude Starke in 1987, thanks to her relationship with John Starke. In 1988, she won critical praise for her performance in the telefilm Stones for Ibarra, and gave another of her memorable performances in the period drama Dangerous Liaisons, co-starring John Malkovich. As the Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil, Close won yet another Best Actress Oscar nomination for the latter but, as in the past, she failed to make it to the podium. Close co-starred in Immediate Family and hosted Saturday Night Live in 1989. The following year, she portrayed Gertrude opposite Mel Gibson's Hamlet, and narrated and starred as Sunny Von Bülow in Reversal of Fortune. Close starred in and also served as executive producer for the 1991 made-for-TV movie Sarah, Plain and Tall. The film, which co-starred Christopher Walken, won critical acclaim, as well as a sizable audience. It spawned two sequels, Skylark (1992) and Sarah, Plain and Tall: Winter's End (1999).
