Dolly has risen from poverty and has made herself one of the most famous and wealthy courty music stars in the world. Dolly's career started at the age of 12 in Knoxville where she made television appearances. The year after, and only at the age of 13 Dolly had a recording contract and was appearing at the Grand Ole Opry and at the age of 21, she had her first hit song titled "Dumb Blonde". She actually became a star when Porter Wagoner hired her to do a duet with him. Both of them toured the country, made records, and appeared numerous times at the Opry. In 1974 Dolly decided to go solo and soon had a string of hit songs including "Coat of May Colors". During the 70's Dolly was a favorite on talk shows and music specials. In 1980 she made her breakthrough on the hit comedy show 9 to 5. Dolly wrote and performed the film's title song and earned an Oscar nomination. She has since continued composing and singing in her films and continues a successful career in country music.
