Due to her father being in the military Christina and her family were constantly moving. At the age of six Christina and her family finally settled in Philadelphia where she began performing in talent shows with much success. She appeared on Star Search in 1988 and in 1992 she was cast as one of the members of the Disney Channel's The New Mickey Mouse Club. After two years Christina moved to Japan where she did a duet with pop star Keizo Nakanishi. Returning to the US in 1998, Aguilera recorded the song "Reflection" for the movie Mulan which helped her earn a recording deal with RCA. In the summer of 1999 her self titled album was released along with her single "Genie In A Bottle" and shot to the top of the charts. Christina was soon asked to sing at the White House Christmas gala and the Super Bowl halftime show and won a Grammy for Best New Artists. In 2001 Christina was featured in the remake of Patti LaBelle's "Lady Marmalade" with other well known artists that was another chart topper. Continuing her success, Christina approached the industry with now a more adult like and sophisticated look.
