Profession: Actress
Ask Carrie-Anne Moss whether she ever thought she would have a fan club, and all you'll get is a shrug. It might be a surprising reaction for someone who has sought out the spotlight since she was a teenager, but growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Hollywood stardom was as foreign as Egyptian couscous. Then along came a movie called The Matrix starring Keanu Reaves and Laurence Fishburne, that just happened to be a worldwide blockbuster, and helped put Carrie's face on billboards from Rio de Janeiro to Beijing. With that came an iconic fame and cult following. It was a role Carrie knew would make her a star. She put up with six auditions, didn't hesitate when directors Larry and Andy Wachowski told her that filming would last for a year, and didn't blink at the 4 months of intensive king fu lessons, because she knew the movie would associate the name Moss with more than the gooey stuff you find under rocks. The success of The Matrix put Carrie on every producer's most wanted list, and led to buzz-worthy flicks like Chocolat with Johnny Depp, Memento, and Red Planet with Val Kilmer and Benjamin Bratt. It also landed her a very lucrative deal to star in two sequels to The Matrix, that aren't likely to dampen her soaring career.
