Originally from Tampa , Florida ; Amber is the only child of NFL player Russell Smith (San Diego Chargers) and professional model, teacher and Barbizon modeling school director Carol Smith. Amber followed in her mother’s footsteps when she began her modeling career at age (15) fifteen. She started out locally with newspaper advertisements and weekly fashion shows at the Holiday Inn. When walking through the hallways of her High School, she was asked to become the subject of the night-course photography class in which she earned $25 a week. Though Amber was a gifted student with a 155 I.Q., in order to model internationally an early start was a must. Just before her 16th birthday, Amber left for Paris. In Europe, she hoped to work, compete, learn the trade, and hopefully survive the "weeding out" process. Quote "It was sink or swim. I was broke, lonely, unable to communicate; and rejected on a daily basis." For four years she ran the rat race in the International modeling circuits, traveling from country to country hoping for a breakthrough. Her breakthrough came when her naturally blonde hair was dyed red for a job. What was previously a slight resemblance to the famed movie star Rita Hayworth became a strong likeness…and an intriguing selling point. Amber appeared in back to back issues of the career-making Sports Illustrated Swimwear Edition, was chosen as Esquire’s first "Vargas Girl" of the 90’s, and launched the original "Wonderbra" campaign.
